My last two articles each explained 10 ways in which messages that people shouldn’t be trans amount to messages that trans people shouldn’t exist. Now I’m going to take the total count to 30.

21. Transphobes Seek to Divide LGBTQ People From Each Other

Transphobes allege (nonsensically and non-factually, of course) that women are being told they can’t say “women” anymore (supposedly because trans women exist) and that gay people are being told they can’t say “gay” anymore (supposedly because queer people exist).

In tandem with allegations like that, you’ll see haters using the LGBTQ acronym and a scissors emoji ✂ to make statements like:

LGB ✂ TQ

That means they think lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals should distance themselves from anyone who’s trans or who prefers the term “queer.”

But you’ll also see:

LG ✂ B️TQ

Ah. The purity test changes its threshold. You may have your own theories about what bisexual people have done wrong to be so unceremoniously kicked out of an acronym. Perhaps they trouble the hypothesis that there are innate heterosexual and homosexual…
