Pamela Paul’s Latest Transphobia
‘Let’s Say Gay’ isn’t about the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law
Yesterday, Pamela Paul published an opinion article in the New York Times. Here, I explain why its entire purpose is to be transphobic.
Her Previous Article
Three months ago, Paul, until recently the editor of The New York Times Book Review, wrote an opinion piece in the Times against trans people. There, she falsely moral-panicked that women were “be[ing] told we couldn’t call ourselves women anymore.”
I dissected that opinion piece in this 12-minute article for Medium.
Her New Article
Now she’s published an article on a related false trope: Gay people are being told they can’t call themselves gay anymore. The New York Times let her do this.
The newspaper headlined this “Let’s Say Gay.” The headline may not have been the author’s choice; I’m not concerned about whose bad choice it was.
