You've prompted me to think about how much of the "Keep writing!" advice is about "craft" (sentence construction) rather than purpose, need, or value. English has such murderously clunky grammar, tricky even for those of us who were born speaking it, never mind spelling. So much of our attention is diverted to meeting certain standards of "correctness," and then certain ideas of "craft" spring up around that. I wonder if the emphasis on "craft" shows up differently in other languages.
