Yes, it's a lot of posturing. Some of the famous ones—those who are media savvy or publish books—will present some catchy idea like: Boys should be allowed to wear pink, girls should be allowed to wear blue. It's a simple image that sticks in the imagination. The general public hears that, and they think: Oh, this person must be politically progressive. But it's just a smokescreen. Despite advocating for gender-neutral baby hats (for example, or whatever their personal smokescreen is), they're otherwise hardline about enforcing binary gender roles. Often explicitly. Other times, by doing the dirty work of this portion of the agenda that they share with religious fundamentalists.
