Words like "deadname" and "non-binary" describe the experiences and identities of some of us. It isn't shit. It isn't noise. We're not shit. We're not noise. There's no point in performing "awesome in front of people" until they realize that we too are "people." We can't do an engine cleanout and system reboot of everyone else's hearts and minds until they make the first incremental change themselves. Everyone's allowed to roast marshmallows around the campfire and talk about '80s music. But were any trans people invited to this campfire at which there was no talk of trans people? OK, then, if trans people weren't invited to that campfire, that's why trans people weren't there performing our awesome and changing some hearts and minds.
