Three days ago, New York Times opinion writer Bret Stephens published “Done With Never Trump.” This may not make him Pro-Trump, but I guess he’s Trump-Tolerant now?

Bret Stephens Says Not to Doomsay Even If Doom Is on its Way

“It’s been more than nine years since I first denounced Donald Trump as a ‘loudmouth vulgarian appealing to quieter vulgarians,’” Stephens says. In other words, he denounced Trump’s aesthetic. That’s not the same as wholeheartedly opposing his values.

Turning up his nose at the vulgarity is, apparently, what being “Never Trump” has meant to him. He admits that “I agreed with his policies from time to time.”

Even though Trump’s second presidency could be “as bad as his most fervent critics fear,” Stephens nods, nonetheless he insists it’s “time to drop the heavy moralizing and incessant doomsaying.” But this does not make sense. After all, Trump’s most fervent critics believe the man is immoral and will bring about multi-dimensional doom, and Stephens admits they may be right — so why shouldn’t we moralize and doomsay?
