When I'm in the role of reader, it's a big job to decide what I want to read. The books on my to-be-read list exceed the books I've read, which just illustrates how frequently I choose to refrain from reading even what I want to read -- never mind everything I don't want to read anyway. I want to read a dozen books today, but I can only read one. I choose carefully because it involves responsibility. Sometimes it feels more responsible to not-read -- for example, because I'm not prepared in some way for whatever's involved in seriously reading a particular title.
