I do think Trump’s LGBT comments were divisive even during the 2016 campaign. He gave vague, contradictory, meaningless answers when asked if he agreed with the Supreme Court’s recent settling of same-sex marriage. More than that, on the few occasions he brought up LGBT rights, it was only in the context of pitting Muslims (“hateful foreign ideology,” he said) against LGBT people. He only ever used the acronym “LGBT” as a pretext for Islamophobic rhetoric to support the War on Terror. He never actually proposed anything specific to help LGBT people domestically.
