Trump said he would deport dangerous people. He slandered all immigrants as violent criminals, and he ramped this up throughout his 2024 campaign.

Just as one example from over a year ago, as Zachary B. Wolf explained for CNN, Trump “claimed, without evidence, that migrants are largely coming from prisons and mental institutions.” He alleged that the US had become a “haven for bloodthirsty criminals.” He said it was necessary to invoke the 1798 Alien Enemies Act and to send the FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration to the border.

But here’s something that reveals more about his true intentions: More recently, just before the election, he began claiming he’d deport 20 million people.

That’s about twice the number of undocumented people in the US. Besides, to believe that any 20 million people in the US are bloodthirsty criminals, you must believe that 5% of the U.S. population are bloodthirsty criminals, which probably contradicts your day-to-day experience of living there.
