That's me! I tried a degree that included science but I wasn't good at it and didn't find it intrinsically motivating. I've always been a writer, and that I remain. Studying humanities was helpful for me. Why should I pursue a degree I'm not skilled at or called to—especially when there are other paths that will be better for me personally and in turn will allow me to be of more use to the world?
The political pressure toward STEM and discouraging humanities feels analogous to pressure to be cisheteronormative and not queer. Really: If you're straight, great, but if you're not, also great. No need to make rules against these perfectly good ways of thinking, working, and being.
