Is the person left out because they are strange?

No. It’s the system that’s strange.

The Difference Between ‘Generation X‘ and ‘Millennial’

Here’s a U.S. perspective on two generations. The concept of “generations” is ultimately imaginary, of course.

Generation X was born in the ’60s and ’70s while atmospheric CO2 was around 320–340 ppm. They grew up with vinyl records, they didn’t have home internet in high school, and they were adults when 9/11 happened.

Millennials were born in the ’80s and ’90s while atmospheric CO2 was around 340–370 ppm. They grew up with CDs, they were likely to have had home internet in high school, and they were still young when 9/11 happened.

The cutoff is around 1980. Pew classifies 1980 babies as Generation X. Gallup classifies them as Millennials. Never mind 1980, but we get the point, right?

Well, I have trouble “never-minding” 1980, because I was born in 1980. I grew up with a vinyl turntable and a CD player. We got our first computer when I was 8 and dial-up Internet when I was 14. I…
