Today, April 20, Elon Musk sent up a SpaceX rocket and it exploded in midair.

The CBS newscaster says kindly: “it’s maybe a ‘successful failure,’ is one way to put it.” (1:08–1:14)

SpaceX called it a “rapid unscheduled disassembly.” More “data” analysis is needed, of course, and they’ll try again. “Success comes from what we learn,” they said on Twitter. The goal: “to make life multi-planetary.” The whole team gets a “congratulations!”

Good News About Science That Does Work

Let’s talk about something we’ve all heard of that’s not at all new:

Hormones.

Our bodies produce them naturally, and you can also get them from a pharmacy. You can take hormones to manage your fertility, improve your mood, give you more energy, or help you look the way you want to look. An adjustment might be important for your physical and mental health. Some doctors specialize in this.

Hormones work if you’re cis.

Hormones work if you’re trans.

They’ve been tested by billions of people for about a century now.

We‘re not ready to make life multi-planetary, but at least we already have better living through hormones.

They are safe. They don’t explode in midair.

So Why Can’t You Have a Trans Body in Missouri?
