So much anti-trans legislation is based on no consultation whatsoever, or else "consultation" with people who aren't actually experts. Often the "expert consultants" are just the same handful of professional transphobes who are flown in from wherever; the only trans-related topic in which they have expertise is their own highly cultivated transphobia.
The question of "parental consent" is especially tricky for parents who are divorced/separated. The company I work for recently published a guide to parenting plans for Saskatchewan custody cases. If a parent wants their child's gender to be affirmed, it's helpful to write it up in a document for clarity..
