Trump’s latest anti-trans executive order calls us ‘anti-Christian’
“Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias” is the sixth anti-trans executive order of the second Trump administration. (I’ve counted five previously.) It’s a long statement that touches on a lot of topics, including anti-abortion activism. I’m mentioning it briefly here to acknowledge that the Trump administration has labeled trans people’s existence as anti-Christian.
It sets out its purpose: “to protect the religious freedoms of Americans and end the anti-Christian weaponization of government.”
One paragraph blames the Biden administration for holding Christian organizations on college campuses accountable to the same rules everyone else has to follow; for inclusion of trans people; for requiring prospective foster parents to tolerate LGBTQ kids; and for recognizing the annual celebration of trans visibility which last year happened to coincide with Easter Sunday.
In this way, Trump has labeled the following things ‘anti-Christian’: trans inclusion and visibility, supporting queer kids, and even holding Christians accountable to antidiscrimination law.
He empowered his Cabinet to “review” anything and everything the government does, to “solicit information and ideas” from anyone they choose, to “identify deficiencies” in laws and regulations and how they’re enforced, and to “recommend” solutions to him.
This is a broad license to interrogate anyone and outlaw any activity deemed “anti-Christian.”
