Occurred to me after reading your article that maybe doing/being are two sides of the same coin but we may want to consider what side we draw into focus.
When “being” is reified or overemphasized, it can be a paradigm shift to focus on “doing” — as you discussed.
Similarly, when “doing” is reified or overemphasized — as it often is in ethical/moral, professional, or etiquette guidelines , e.g. “always salute your superior” — it can be a paradigm shift to focus on “being,” e.g. virtues, or “what kind of person do you want to be in this situation?”
