What You Know and Can Act On

How do we know when we know something? It’s a feeling in the body. These feelings come in different kinds: familiarity upon recognizing a face, unwillingness to entertain the opposite of a plain fact, and on and on. I’ve experienced the sun rise in the east and set in the west, and I’ve also received the explanation for it.

Knowledge can feel like solidity. What we’ve found isn’t likely to change any time soon. Knowing can be like grasping a rock. A tool gives us power, and we in turn control what we grasp. We know we can use it for good or evil. To know it is to be equipped with it. We ready ourselves to use it.
