Indeed! It forces people underground. It is one thing when the anxiety is internal and temporary, and overcoming the anxiety and relearning how to make daily choices (based on what you look like, how people around you react to you, etc.) is part of the gender transition. It is another thing when the state is surveilling you and making choices for you that do not actually work for your life, and the downstream result is that you can't leave the house because queer people are supposed to "keep it in the bedroom" the way women were supposed to keep it in the kitchen.
