I'd already bought a copy of The Shadow of the Wind, and your article reminded me of it, so I read it this morning. Especially at the beginning of the novel, I noticed how it described flickering light and gentle touch; this could be repeated in film, though I'm not sure how film could add to it. Because the novel is so much about reading and memory, it does seem better suited to literature — though Michael Ende's novel The Neverending Story, which is also about getting a special book from a bookshop, made a successful movie.
