I wrote about the Gettier problem here on Medium several months ago. I was revisiting a philosophy paper I'd written at university 20 years ago.

In the Medium article, I concluded that "some statements are so unimportant or irrelevant that they do not even prompt us to ask whether we 'know' them" and that "our reasons for asking about knowledge — that is, our motives for verifying facts and for assessing the quality of reasoning — give force and weight to our claim to know something."
