I understand the general meaning behind the metaphor/joke. I imagine the term could be used with different attitudes toward one’s (ex-)spouse (e.g. hostile, affectionate), understandings of what it means to be transgender, levels of acceptance and preparedness for one’s marriage to end, and degrees of irony.
