I must have joined LinkedIn soon after it was launched in 2003, as I was a recent graduate. I worked for the same company for 11 years and thus didn't need LinkedIn during that time, but a recruiter found me through it in 2021, which was a very good outcome for me. Otherwise, I haven't known what to do with LinkedIn because my professional past doesn't connect in obvious ways with my present work and future aspirations. I don't have a narrative about myself that fits in a "professional" bucket. A few months ago, I deleted my old job from my résumé on LinkedIn; that felt like a big advancement personally, in the sense of untying from a past that isn't serving me. I suppose I could start doing something new with LinkedIn, but the exact thing to do with it has not occurred to me yet. I enjoy writing long essays on Medium.
