I don't think the author of the original article was saying that, nor is that what my comment was about.

The original article said people tend to "overestimate" how much someone else wants to kill them ("extremism," "political violence," etc.). I responded that accurately estimating how much someone else wants to kill me doesn't solve the problem; the problem is that they want to kill me.
