I don't see why this should be a requirement. Many writers spend more than a week on each story — for example, because we tend to write stories that are long, artistic, need to be researched and fact-checked, are collaborative with other writers and editors, are discussing our own emotional trauma, or are otherwise complex. Also, some writers don't have the time to write a story every week, for example because they have family or job responsibilities or because they are disabled or ill. Telling writers we have to post a story every week (or else we'll stop getting paid for all our previous work!) would encourage people to post rough drafts of stories that aren't their best work (or are AI-generated!), and it would penalize writers for slowing down their output regardless of their reason (because, for example, they're in the hospital, or they're taking a vacation). I've published over 430 articles on Medium over the last five years, during which I've continuously been a paying member, as well as a reader and commenter on other people's stories, and I'm a general promoter of the site (on my author Wordpress website, on my Google blogs, on Discords, on my social media, etc.). I don't think I should suddenly stop getting paid if one month if I only have ideas for three good articles and not four or if I'm too unwell to write the fourth up to my own standards.
