I can see it as a "condition" in the general sense of a "situation" (not in the medical sense of an illness). Being trans(sexual) is a permanent fact about my life, regardless of whether I like it, spend time thinking about it, or befriend, support, or ally with any other trans people. Thus, for me, it's a material situation first, and doesn't have to be an identity (but it can be). Other people identify as trans first without necessarily transitioning, so they come at it differently.
