I also stepped away from a high-paying job. I didn't yet understand the nature of the toxicity, though I learned to see it in retrospect. I wanted to become a better person. I didn't have a plan. I have less money, and that — for me — is OK. Not everyone can do this, but for those of us who do, it shapes everything that comes next.
