On Tuesday, April 18, just before opening statements began at their defamation trial, Fox News settled with Dominion Voting Systems. The judge had recently ruled that Fox had indeed made false statements about Dominion regarding the 2020 election. Dominion had sought $1.6 billion, but they accepted half that amount from Fox. The settlement didn’t require Fox to publicly apologize.
Fox is now facing a bigger lawsuit from Smartmatic USA, which is seeking $2.7 billion. Smartmatic says they might settle, but they want a larger settlement than Dominion got, plus an admission of wrongdoing.
On Friday, April 21, Tucker Carlson signed off his Fox show, not knowing it was for the last time. He advertised his streaming film “Let Them Eat Bugs” (I don’t want to know) and said: “We’ll be back on Monday.”
This morning, Monday, he was informed the network was letting him go. Fox posted a brief announcement, saying only “we thank him for his service” and assuring us that he will not be back on the air.
Why Did Fox Get Rid of Him?
Maybe Dominion essentially required his departure in their settlement.
