The story of Queen Esther is over two thousand years old and is generally believed to be fiction, not an accurate recording of events. You can read the full text of the Book of Esther at the Jewish Virtual Library. I’ve summarized the story here, and then I suggest one reason this queen was heard when she raised her voice.

The Story of Queen Esther

The king replaces his queen

The king called his old queen to show off her beauty to all his friends, and she refused, so he threw her out and sent a decree throughout the land that men should make a stronger effort to be in charge of their wives and ensure their subordinacy. He drew new young beauties to the palace, and his favorite became his new queen, Esther.

Mordecai saves the king

Esther’s cousin, Mordecai, overheard an assassin’s plot. He told Esther, and Esther warned the king, being sure to give her cousin credit. The would-be assassins were hanged, and the court scribe noted it in the history book.

The king’s new advisor hates Mordecai

The king appointed a new advisor, one who was motivated entirely by pride and greed and who was angered when Mordecai…
