Ditto, I found The God Delusion helpful when it was published in 2006. I had been leaning toward atheism anyway, reading a lot, and that book finally gave me confidence to say: OK, I'll stake a claim on this side of the "Is there a God?" question. But I didn't like the bullying/dismissive tone toward religion. Dawkins's reasons for being willing to say "there is no god" were roughly my reasons (at least when I read it 17 years ago), but my similarities with him may end there. He's now on the "there is no trans" bandwagon, thinking he'll gather up his flock again, and unfortunately it seems to be working. Although he doesn't quite have the evil charisma, outright aggressive tone, and energy of the other professional gadflies, he still has the cultural cache and other resources to interview and platform the transphobes, and he's joined the advisory board of the new University of Austin which has Kathleen Stock as founding faculty and was announced by Bari Weiss two years ago. U of Austin is one of those orgs that claims to promote "free speech" for all of the people who have been tragically silenced, and it defines "free" as "anti-woke."
