Curious about this. I'm aware that Judith Butler came out with a book about this history a year ago, which I've bought but have yet to read. For now, given all the books I haven't read, I feel I'm missing a piece of this (anti-)intellectual history. When you say that neo-Catholic rhetoric underpinned the ideology, do you mean it underpinned the American far-right white nationalists, the first wave of gender critics, or both? I'm also right now halfway through an advance copy of Enemy Feminisms by Sophie Lewis which (so far) feels related to this history, so that's contributing to my specific curiosity here.
