Wilderness is the unknown. Much in the human is unknown too. We humans are part of the unknown world.

Humans try to conquer wilderness. All that which can’t be conquered, we directly or indirectly destroy — then pretend it never existed. We do this also to other people whose backgrounds and experiences are not our own.

The parts of the planet that remain unknown to us allow there to be enough space for plants and animals to thrive, and these give us survivable air, water, and food. We don’t know how to terraform a planet to make it habitable. Earth’s survivability for us comes from our unknowing of it.
