Certain elected politicians, TV bosses, directors of social media platforms, etc. could reverse this trend, but instead they choose to accelerate it. Because of their daily choice, the trend will accelerate accordingly. I don't see how it will reverse until people do what needs to be done—much of which is obvious and straightforward. Stop hate speech. Melt down the guns. Get people's basic economic needs met so they aren't frustrated and desperate, and address their health needs so they aren't in physical and mental pain and can live and thrive. Then start a national dialogue of reconciliation for everything that happened in the past so we don't let it happen again. It's so doable. But certain people are committed to violence.
