The ‘But Why Do Trans…?’ Questions Often Just Ask About Being Human

Of course humans will disagree with and disappoint each other. So where are we going together?

A question came in, seemingly ITA-OTA (I’ll take the answer off the air.) Due to the way this question was sent to me, I have no way to reply to the person directly. I wouldn’t, anyway. I tend to ignore such missives. But I believe this person wanted me to write a little essay to address their uncertainties. Because I’m feeling generous, I shall use their message as a writing prompt. Perhaps they’ll be listening to the answer at home.

This Is the 13-Part Question

I split up the message into 13 remarks and will address each separately.

1. ‘I have a legitimate question…What does the trans community want?’

This is a warmed-over version of Sigmund Freud’s question, as he wrote long ago to Marie Bonaparte:

“The great question that has never been answered and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is ‘What does a woman want?’”

Unfortunately for the prospect of Freud ever answering his own question, women…
