We’ll Need to Heal From This Years-Long Torrent of Insults
But we don’t need to fix or forgive those who continue to hurt us
A week ago, a speaker at the Trump rally at Madison Square Garden referred to Puerto Rico as “garbage,” and since then there has been a bit of discourse about appropriate ways to respond to that.
President Biden (who should not be talking about anything whatsoever right now) attempted a quip that I imagine was supposed to come out as: It’s garbage to call people garbage, so cut it out. Whatever he meant to say, he flubbed it.
Now the Trump campaign is trying to proudly reclaim the epithet “garbage.” Which, truly, is also a flub on their part.
Trump attorney Alina Habba yelled at a North Carolina rally today:
“These days, Sundays are also for God and garbage. So I’m so proud to represent America’s garbage.”
Video if you want to hear this:
She did that to herself.
