A year ago, I published 3 Strategies to Fight Transphobia. One suggestion was to expose anti-trans agitators’ organizational connections.

In keeping with that advice, I’m drawing attention to this HuffPost report: A Leonard Leo-Linked Group Is Secretly Funding Legislative Attacks On Trans Rights (Molly Redden, June 24).

The largest U.S. political donation was $1.6 billion

In 2021, Barre Seid gave $1.6 billion to Leonard Leo’s group, the Marble Freedom Trust. ProPublica called this “the largest known donation to a political advocacy group in U.S. history.” The New York Times, writing on the same day, also suspected it might be “the largest.”

With that in his pockets, “Leo vastly expanded his efforts to target a wide spectrum of conservative policy goals and hobby horses,” and today he’s “fueling political attacks on issues including abortion access, voting rights and critical race theory.”

Note: Don’t try to line your pocket with $1.6 billion. Won’t work. If you had it in $100 bills, it would weigh as much as two or three African elephants.
