Banned: Trans People Under 21 in Puerto Rico Denied Gender-Affirming Care

No matter what laws they make, they can’t stop us from existing

Gender-affirming care is supported by Puerto Rico’s health secretary and major medical organizations. Nonetheless, politicians have chosen to outlaw it for people under age 21, the age of majority in Puerto Rico.

The following organizations had asked Puerto Rico’s governor, Jenniffer González Colón, to veto the ban passed by the Senate:

• el Colegio de Médicos Cirujanos (surgeons)
• la Asociación de Psicología de Puerto Rico (psychologists)
• el Colegio de Profesionales del Trabajo Social (social workers)
• la ACLU (civil rights)
• la Asociación Puertorriqueña de Consejería Profesional (counselors)
• el Colegio de Abogadas y Abogados de Puerto Rico (bar association)

Despite their counsel, González signed it yesterday.
