Along with Christian nationalism—which, per the term itself, is both religious and political—do you think there's something explicitly and consciously theological that underlies this recent escalation? I mean, do you think these particular Christians who are confrontational in their hate, yelling, waving swastikas, etc. are doing so because their apocalyptic beliefs/expectations are intensifying, or because their theology increasingly puts them in cognitive dissonance with the modern world, or something like that? (Likely a topic for a new article.) I can't answer because I am originally of the secular Jews of the Northeast US and I've lived outside the US for the last five years, so I would appreciate the perspective of someone who's closer to this group.
