I Still Have 8,615 Unread Emails (Over 10 Years) on a Former US President

You know which guy it is. Shall I delete these emails one by one?

My Gmail account is about to celebrate its 20th birthday. I struggle every day to keep it under control—it’ll never be at Inbox Zero, but it could be cleaner.

It occurred to me recently to ask: How many emails do I have with the name Trump in them?

I searched for them. The search only returns emails I haven’t deleted, of course.

Maybe these as-yet-undeleted emails can be prioritized for deletion, as a matter of email hygiene. What do you think?

I Searched for All My Emails Containing ‘Trump’

The earliest mention of Trump in my Gmail was May 2005. In an email conversation titled “How much money you can make,” I sent a job opportunity to an anti-capitalist friend, and I joked: “You’re worth $40,000, too…Get ready for the Trump lifestyle!”

(She replied: “Dude, I am worth 40,000!” and said it was too bad that job would expect her to start soon. She did eventually take a similar job and stayed there for a decade.)

Get ready for the Trump lifestyle, indeed. My email, anyway, was about to start saying “Trump”…
