Is 4chan Done 4?
It gives me joy to report that the site went down on April 15
In these trying times when we are sorely in need of consolation, 4chan is down:
4chan is (or was?) an anonymous internet forum known for hateful posts. People do (or did?) also post on topics “from video games and television to literature, cooking, weapons, music, history, technology, anime, physical fitness, politics, and sports,” Wikipedia assures us. But, in shorthand: it was a Place of Hate.
In 2022, I took one screenshot of hate speech on 4chan to expose and discuss that particular bit of awfulness. Haven’t looked at the site before or since, but all the same, I’d be relieved if it doesn’t come back online tomorrow.
The hackers call themselves Soyjack Party. That’s another right-wing extremist group, named after a conspiracy theory (and related soyjack memes) that soy is a feminizing food. It seems they’re feuding with 4chan and they may have accomplished a coup.
Cybernews doesn’t know who these alleged hackers are, if they’re really allied with Soyjack Party (for whatever that’s worth), or if the data they’re sharing today is really from…
